Award

The amount of aid is determined by using the information you provided on your FAFSA. A complete description of all federal and state financial aid programs can be found in the Financial Aid Award Guide.

Aid Disbursement Information

Proceeds from most loans, grants, and scholarships are disbursed in equal payments, one-third each term, and will be applied to your student account with the school.

Reporting of Other Resources

Your financial aid award may be canceled or reduced at any time if there is evidence that your statement of financial conditions was misrepresented on your application. You must report any scholarship, grant, loan, or earnings other than those indicated on your award offer. You must also report receipt of funds such as VA, BIA and any other resources that was not stated on your application. The financial aid award may be adjusted to reflect the change in your resources. In some circumstances this may require a reduction or repayment of financial aid funds received during the award year.

Change-in-Status

You must notify the Financial Aid Office if you plan to withdraw from Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech during a term, do not plan to register for a subsequent term or plan to change status from full-time (12+ credits per term). The award is based on the availability of state and federal funds and is subject to change. Awards are initially based on full-time enrollment unless the financial aid office has been notified otherwise.

Academic Progress Requirements

It is the student’s responsibility to review and understand the most recent Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements from the Financial Aid Office and adhere to them. Failure to meet these minimum requirements may result in cancellation of your aid for subsequent terms or school years. Should your aid be withheld for SAP reasons, if you want your financial aid reinstated you will be required to complete an appeal form and explain in writing the reasons why you did not achieve the minimum standard. A decision regarding continuation of your aid will be made by the Financial Aid Director/Financial Aid Committee.

Repayment/Refund

Official/Unofficial Complete Withdrawals and Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4)

Financial aid is awarded and disbursed to students based on the assumption that the student will complete the term.  Federal financial aid is recalculated for students who completely withdraw from all courses in a term (Official Complete Withdrawals) and for students who receive any combination of non-passing grades (F, W, and I) for all courses in a term (Unofficial Complete Withdrawals).  This process is called Return of Title IV Funds and is required by federal financial aid regulations.  Federal financial aid includes the following: Direct Unsubsidized Loans, Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Parent PLUS Loans, Direct Grad PLUS Loans, Pell Grants, and SEOG Grants. Return of Title IV Funds does not apply to students who drop some courses but remain enrolled in others in the term or to students who receive some non-passing and some passing grades in a term as these are not complete withdrawals.

For an official withdrawal, a student may go to the website and follow these instructions.

How to withdraw from Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech

To withdraw from the term, you must complete the Withdrawal Survey.

  • Step 1: Go to the
  • Step 2: Answer the questions in the survey as this is part of the withdrawal process. Your responses can help us understand how to best support you should you decide to return to Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech for a future term.
  • Step 3: Click Submit to complete your request to withdraw from the term. If you are receiving financial aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office to report your withdrawal.

If a student is unable to follow the steps above, the Registrar’s Office may complete the process from a phone call from the student, Dean, Vice President of Student Affairs, or other University Official.

Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech completes the calculation of the Return of Title IV Funds within 30 days of the school’s determination that the student has withdrawn. Unearned Title IV funds are returned as soon as possible but no later than 45 days from the school’s determination of withdrawal.  The amount of unearned federal financial aid is adjusted on the student's account and returned to the U.S. Department of Education.  This may result in a balance owed on the student account.  If you have general financial aid questions, please contact the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech Financial Aid Office at dollars@oit.edu If you have questions specifically about Return of Title IV Funds, please contact Faletha Fowler at faletha.fowler@oit.edu in the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech Business Affairs Office.

Unearned Title IV aid shall be returned to the following Title IV Programs in the following order:

Unsubsidized Direct Loan

Subsidized Direct Loan

Direct Grad PLUS Loan

Direct Parent PLUS Loan

Pell Grant

FSEOG

Calculation

Aid disbursed and aid not yet disbursed that the student was eligible for are used in the Return of Title IV Funds calculation along with the withdrawal date to determine the amount of unearned federal funds that must be returned for students who do not complete at least 60% of the term.  The withdrawal date for both official and unofficial withdrawals is determined by the latest last date of attendance that the student actively participated in an instructional-related activity.  The last date of attendance for officially withdrawn courses is collected from instructors via an automated email process when courses are dropped.  The last date of attendance for F grades is provided by instructions when reporting grades and the last date of attendance for I grades is obtained by emailing instructors.

Post Withdrawal Disbursements

At the time of withdrawal, if a student has not received all of the Title IV funds that they earned, they may be eligible for a post-withdrawal disbursement and a Return of Title IV Funds calculation must be performed to make the determination.  If there is an applicable post-withdrawal disbursement that includes loan funds, Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech must obtain the student’s permission before loans can be disbursed.  The student may choose to decline some or all of the loan funds so that they do not incur additional debt.  Students will be notified of post-withdrawal disbursement loan eligibility within 30 days of the date of determination of withdrawal and they are given 14 days to respond.  Post-withdrawal disbursements of funds are disbursed within 45 days of the date of determination of withdrawal.  Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech will automatically apply all or a portion of post-withdrawal disbursements of grant funds to balances for tuition, fees, and room and board charges. Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech must however obtain permission from the student to use the post-withdrawal grant disbursement for any other school charges.  If a post-withdrawal disbursement results in a credit balance, the credit balance will be refunded to the student and/or parent in the case of a Direct Parent PLUS loan, as soon as possible, but no later than 14 days after the Return of Title IV Funds calculation.
