Hire Student Employees

For equity purposes, all student employment positions MUST be posted on Handshake, ˿Ƶ Tech’s online career management platform.  Career Services will post your student job on your behalf.

To create a student employment job posting, follow these steps:

  1. Develop a detailed position description including key job duties, desired qualifications and application instructions. Use the Student Employment Position Description Template to create your position description. Once your job description is complete, please SAVE it for future reference.  Career Services is not able to retrieve position descriptions once the job posting has expired.
  2. Fill out this  with the job description information.
  3. Career Services will post the job for you using the form within 48 hours of receiving the information.
  4. You will receive an emailed confirmation when your job is posted, (save this email for payroll processes.)
  5. Payroll will email you with a form to fill out when you are ready to hire a student (save this email).
  6. Reviewing applications and conducting interviews will be your responsibility along with selecting the final candidate. As best practice please take a moment to let students not hired know of their status. You can use the summary pdf of your job posting from Handshake to obtain student emails. Feel free to use the following statement, “Thank you for your interest in the [Position Name] position. We appreciate the time and effort you took to apply. After careful consideration, we have selected another candidate for this position. We encourage you to apply again in the future, and we wish you success in your job search.”
  7. For your selected candidate, fill out the required payroll form using the information from the emails from career@oit.edu and payroll@oit.edu.
  8. Wait for payroll’s confirmation before starting the student.

Remember to SAVE your Student Employment Position Description.  Career Services CANNOT retrieve position descriptions once the job posting has expired.

To Explore Handshake from a student perspective:

Simply email Career Services and we will provide instructions to set up your own student account.
