Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech quietly offers free tuition to Umpqua shooting survivors

In the months following the state's deadliest mass shooting in modern times, Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ President Chris Maples quietly set up a new scholarship program. Starting this fall, OIT will waive tuition for any Umpqua Community College student who was in one of four classes in Snyder Hall on Oct. 1 when a gunman killed 10 people, including himself, and wounded 8 others.

Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech is somewhat unique from other universities in that its graduates typically fare favorably in the working world post-graduation. The university prides itself on building relationships with local tech companies, and provides many programs that allow students to intern and work alongside respected companies such as Intel and in Gerkensmeyer’s case, Boeing.
