A Little Bit Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Me

Aloha (Greetings)! I'm Tia Lardizabal, a woman of half-Filipino and Lebanese descent raised in a culture rooted in aloha—compassion, respect, and peace toward oneself and others. I'm deeply passionate about Polynesian cultural arts, music, and dance. Growing up in Kaua'i, Hawai'i, our close-knit, family-oriented community shaped me into the person I am today. Moving to Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ to continue my education, I aim to build a brighter future and later return to support my community through healthcare. As the eldest, I'm tasked with strengthening the foundation my parents laid for my brother and me. Prior to moving, I promised myself to uphold my cultural values and to focus on my goals no matter how difficult the challenge may be.

Why I Chose Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech and My Major

Inspired by my personal experience with my mother's diagnosis of thyroid cancer, deciding on a career in Sonography caught my interest. I met a local hospital Ultrasound Tech who was coincidentally an Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech Alumni. Her experiences convinced me to pursue this field and aligned with my strengths. After researching and planning, Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech met my criteria and specializes in the field of study I am interested in.

My Influential Professors

As I continue my studies at Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech, my aim is to forge professional bonds with my academic counselor, Pre-Medical Imaging instructors, and possibly those in the Sonography program. I've heard glowing reviews from fellow students about professors' expertise and the strong camaraderie among students within their cohorts. Throughout my O.I.T. journey, I aspire to discover a mentor who can offer motivation and guidance for my college success and beyond.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech

With the experience I've gained since graduating from Kaua'i Community College, I am confident in adapting to Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech's academic expectations, using campus resources, and finding a sense of belonging as I embark on my next academic chapter. Moving to Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ has posed new social challenges, teaching me the value of perseverance, seeking help without shame, and giving myself due credit for my accomplishments.

My Plans After Graduation

After graduating, I intend to return to Kaua'i, my home island, and apply for an Ultrasound Technologist position at Wilcox Medical Center. I've connected with a local hospital Ultrasound Tech who may offer a position post-degree and certifications. While working at the hospital, I plan to continue hula dancing during my free time and join non-profit organizations. Additionally, I may substitute teach at local public schools.
