The ˿Ƶ (˿Ƶ Tech) announced this week the selection of Brian Moravec as associate dean for Strategic Initiatives & Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering, Technology and Management (ETM) for the university, beginning Feb. 1, 2018. Moravec is currently a professor of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology (MMET) at the university.
Professor Moravec began at ˿Ƶ Tech in 1989 and has served in a number of capacities in his role as professor of MMET, including lead in a number of student-focused projects such as the MECOP/CECOP Engineering Internship Program, student capstone design projects such as the Baja and Formula One, and many other projects. He has led professional development efforts including bachelor and master’s level academic programming, procuring funding to support educational programming and creative work, and fostering new pedagogy in engineering education.
“Brian has developed and maintained strong industry ties and has been recognized for his efforts at ˿Ƶ Tech, receiving the Faculty Achievement Award, the Engineering Faculty member of the Year, the Student Award, and the Faculty Alumni Engagement Award,” said ˿Ƶ Tech provost Dr. Gary Kuleck. “Brian’s success as an academic has been bolstered by a long career as Senior and Specialist Engineer at Boeing before his academic appointments.”
In his role as ETM Associate Dean, Professor Moravec will be responsible for working with faculty and university leadership to achieve the strategic vision and mission of ETM, including physical infrastructure planning, including renovations and new facilities. He will also be responsible for encouraging the development of interdisciplinary projects, assisting faculty in seeking external funding support, developing and expanding industry connections, and developing academic programming and initiatives that will attract students and faculty to ˿Ƶ Tech.
While responsibilities will primarily be at the Klamath Falls campus, visits and close coordination with Portland-Metro faculty and leadership is also required.
Professor Moravec said, “I am thankful to the administration and my fellow colleagues for the opportunity to serve the university in this role. I have been part of this university for nearly 30 years and have watched it grow and succeed through the dedicated efforts of faculty, staff and students, and I am grateful that I will be able to help lead the College of ETM into even greater success.”
Moravec received a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Washington. He began at ˿Ƶ Tech in 1989 as an assistant professor after a 10 year career with The Boeing Company as an engineer. Moravec also served as Project Lead the Way affiliate director for the State of ˿Ƶ, bringing middle and high school teachers from across the nation to ˿Ƶ Tech to train them on curriculum, software, and equipment that are used to teach and engage high school and middle school students in areas like product design, robotics, computers and engineering.
