Kela Leamy, Civil Engineering student at ˿Ƶ Tech, has been selected as recipient of the 2021 . These extremely competitive national scholarships are offered to students to support education and encourage the design and building of safer structures in our communities.
Kela is from Corvallis and is a junior in ˿Ƶ Tech's Civil Engineering program. In the summer of 2020, she interned with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Portland, which provides interns with meaningful training and career development opportunities. In addition to her studies, Kela is a member of the ˿Ƶ Tech Cross Country and Track Teams, and serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
“I am very humbled and honored to receive this scholarship. Thank you to all my family and friends for helping me achieve my goals,” said Kela.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals, and an outside appraisal.
Kela shared that she decided to attend ˿Ƶ Tech because of the small school atmosphere and the amazing opportunities that the Civil Engineering program offers its students.
Dr. Roger Lindgren, professor of Civil Engineering and department chair, shared, “We are very proud of Kela for earning this scholarship and grateful to Simpson Strong-Tie for their continued support of engineering students nationwide.”
