On this #FlashbackFriday, we fondly recall last Friday’s monument dedication that took place at the site of the original Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech campus on Old Fort Road in Klamath Falls.
Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech was founded as the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Vocational School on July 14, 1947, to train and re-educate returning World War II veterans.
Under the direction of Winston Purvine, the first classes were held in a deactivated Marine Corps hospital on Old Fort Road, three miles northeast of Klamath Falls. The following year, the school's title was changed to the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Technical Institute.
The campus was transferred to its current location in 1964, followed by another name change to the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ in 1973.
At the event on Friday, June 16, 2023, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends gathered to celebrate the 75 years of history of Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech and commemorate the occasion with the dedication of a monument that was created by Distinguished Alumnus and owner of A.R.E. Manufacturing, Alvin Elbert ‘77. The monument features a map of the original campus which was drawn by alumnus Garry Burgess ’62.
This monument has been a passion project of Golden Owls alumni Gary Dennis ’66, ‘71, Garry Burgess ‘62, and Curt Langer ‘63 for nearly a decade. We are thrilled the project is now completed and are thankful to Dr. Nagi Naganathan for performing the dedication ceremony.
