Hands-On at OMIC
The DeArmond Fellows are experiencing a one of a kind internship this summer at Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Manufacturing Innovation Center R&D in Scappoose, concurrent with a special four-year scholarship at Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Tech from the Robert J. and Leona DeArmond Public Foundation.

The fellows are mentoring with OMIC R&D researchers and industry experts, assisting and contributing on real-world professional level research and development projects, and expanding their skills and knowledge through trainings on state-of-the-art machining operations and techniques.


 

What do you like best about your major?

Jacob: I believe the best aspect of being an Manufacturing Engineering Technology major is some of the specialized classes that I have the opportunity to take. Automation & Robotics and Lean Management are two examples of manufacturing specific classes that I am definitely looking forward to during my final two years of college.

What has been your favorite or most valuable experience in working at OMIC R&D so far?

Dearmond Group

Drake: My favorite part about working at OMIC is that I get to participate in professional level research projects and expand on my ability to run the machines that are here. Being a part of these projects means that I get to shake hands with professionals in the field and contribute the skills that I am learning towards real world R&D for these companies. Also, it is just a cool opportunity to even push a few buttons on a big CNC machine to run the program. Overall, it is a very fun and valuable experience to work here at OMIC, because it will not only benefit me for my future classes but my future career going forward.

What career ambitions do you have after graduation?

Daniel: After graduation I hope to enter the automotive, or aerospace industry. I have a particular interest in developing internal combustion engines. I have always enjoyed learning the internal workings and cycles of engines. For this reason I would like to take part in the development and production of engines or work in a related field.

Mario: Thank you! Your support allows students to follow their dreams and reaffirms their decision to further their education.
