Format of Letters of Recommendation

References of applicants to the MSREE program can provide a Personal Evaluation, located in the documents section of this page, of the applicant using this form.

References can be emailed to oit@oit.edu from the evaluator's professional email account, or may be mailed to the address on the evaluation form.

Application for Admissions

˿Ƶ Tech encourages all prospective applicants to submit graduate application materials six months in advance of the planned enrollment date. Priority admission and Graduate Assistantships will be given to applications submitted by March 1st, but applications will be accepted up to May 1st for International Students and up to July 1st for US permanent residents. It is highly recommended applications be submitted as soon as possible.

For Graduate Admissions

This is required for Graduate level applicants. For more info see:

Admissions for Graduate-Level Applicants

For International Students

International students must submit proof of English language proficiency. This is required for international applicants. For more info see:

 Admissions for International Student Applicants

For Concurrent BSREE/BSEE

This is required for applicants currently enrolled in the BSREE or BSEE Programs at ˿Ƶ Tech. For more info see:

Admissions for Concurrent BSREE & BSEE Applicants

MSREE Program Costs

Tuition is charged on a per credit hour basis, and 54 total graduate credits are required to earn the MSREE. The Tuition and Fees calculator can help you approximate costs per term. You would choose the following options:
Campus: Portland Metro, Klamath Falls, or Online
Class Standing: Graduate
Residency: Non-resident, unless you are a legal resident of the State of ˿Ƶ
Credit hours: Choose at least 9 credit hours when viewing graduate tuition, as this represents a full-time workload for a single term. Tuition and fees change for part-time students taking very few classes, so selecting 1 credit hour and multiplying the cost by 9 will not give you an accurate tuition assessment for full-time studies.
Housing option: For Portland-Metro, select off-campus housing
Special major or program: Engineering and Technology Major

FAQs

Priority will be given to applications submitted by March 1st, but applications will be accepted up to May 1st for International Students. Application deadlines for Fall term for US permanent residents are listed in the Graduate Program Admission website. It is highly recommended to submit the application as soon as possible.

The MSREE program only accepts students for Fall admission (September).

You should expect a response approximately 2 months after submitting your application. The letter from the MSREE Admissions Committee will specify the applicant’s response date and other relevant information to complete the registration.

The MSREE is designed as a in person program, although some courses are offered online.

The MSREE is a competitive program which requires rigorous preparation for graduate-level engineering study. Minimum qualifications for application include an undergraduate degree in an engineering discipline and a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher. An alternative path for earning your MSREE degree is the concurrent BS/MSREE program in which students earn both an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) or renewable energy engineering (BSREE) at the same time as they earn the MSREE. This is a route that many post-baccalaureate students take in order to ensure they have the adequate preparation and qualifications to excel in the MS program. Many of the courses you have taken for your first bachelor’s degree might transfer and be counted towards your BSEE or BSREE undergraduate degree, substantially reducing the amount of time it would take to earn this second degree. The number of credits and length of time would depend on the exact number of courses that can be transferred. The first step would be to apply for the BSREE program. The MSREE program is then available for BSREE students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and contact the MSREE program director by the end of Spring term of their junior year. Both degrees (BSREE and MSREE) will be conferred at the end of their fifth year. The degree requirements for each program are available in our online catalog (, ).

We cannot review application materials for prospective students until we have received their complete applications packages, which include official copies of TOEFL scores, official university transcripts, reference evaluations, your résumé and personal statement, and, very importantly, an independent transcript evaluation as described here. This transcript evaluation will help us assess your previous studies to determine whether you have met the minimum application requirement of the equivalent of a BS in Engineering with a 3.0/4.0 GPA.

The Master of Science in Renewable Energy Engineering is a rigorous program that require applicants to have a GPA equivalent to or better than 3.0/4.0. Different countries utilize different scales; international students usually have their transcripts evaluated by an independent agency who can “translate” between different grading systems. If your average from the country translates to 3.0 or better in the American system, you are welcome to apply to the MSREE program. If your average is below 3.0, we encourage you to consider the Bachelor of Science in Renewable Energy Engineering (BSREE). Some of the courses you have taken for your first bachelor’s degree might transfer and be counted towards your REE undergraduate degree, substantially reducing the amount of time it would take to earn this second degree.  A concurrent MSREE program is available for BSREE students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and contact the MSREE program director by the end of Spring term of their junior year. Both degrees (BSREE and MSREE) will be conferred at the end of their fifth year.

We discourage applicants from contacting faculty members prior to submitting an application and being admitted to the program. Individual faculty cannot advise or sponsor students prior the their admittance in the MSREE program. Without a complete application packet, it is often impossible to determine whether the applicant meets the admission requirements or the potential for teaching/research assistantships.

GRE is optional. If you do not have work experience, the GRE may enhance your application. GRE scores provide an additional source of information to the admissions committee, particularly for applicants without work experience, but they are not the only determinant factor in their decision.

Yes, it is possible to register for courses for professional development purposes as a non-admit student. These credits can be later used towards the MSREE degree. Fully admitted students have priority of registration.

There are assistantships directed to teaching selected undergraduate laboratory and recitation, and to conducting applied research under the direction of a faculty member. Typically, only full-time students are eligible for Graduate Assistantships. It is not possible to determine which applicants will be awarded assistantships until the admissions process is completed. If you are interested in an assistantship, please indicate so in the graduate application.

Both the original transcript and the transcript evaluation are required. ˿Ƶ Tech requires official academic transcripts of your academic history in the original language of your secondary school, college, or university. Transcripts must be translated into U.S. education standards by the evaluation service, even if the transcript is issued in English. Evaluation services accepted by ˿Ƶ Tech are listed in the International Student Transcripts website.

The recommendation letters should reflect an evaluation of your performance by professors, supervisors, and/or colleagues who are familiar with your work, either academic or professional. Please contact the Admission Office at ˿ƵTech.Admissions@oit.edu any specific questions on how to submit your recommendation letters as part of your application package.

Please note that most questions can be answered by reading the contents of the MSREE or relevant ˿Ƶ Tech websites
