We frequently get asked, “What happens at ˿����Ƶ Tech during the summer?” Well, the day-to-day activities change, but we have a great crew of staff, faculty, and students who keep things running, and summer opens our campus up for K-12 activities! Last week, in addition to the Klamath Outdoor Science School and basketball camps, ˿����Ƶ Tech held a NW Cyber Camp at the Klamath Falls campus. ˿����Ƶ Tech Educational Partnerships and Outreach collaborated with NW Cyber to bring the camp to the Southern ˿����Ƶ region, engaging youth in career-connected learning. This camp was a natural pathway to introduce students to ˿����Ƶ Tech's Cybersecurity program. Seven students attended the camp, which was grant-supported and provided at no cost to the students. The camp included an introduction to cybersecurity, where students learned to locate vulnerabilities, uncover cyber attacks, and catch hackers. Guest speaker Jonathan Eskeldson, a cyber-entomologist from Bend, provided scenarios for students to "spot the bug," enhancing their knowledge of cybersecurity. Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity and Information Technology Dr. Rishikesh Sahay and Associate Director of Educational Partnerships and Outreach Mary-Jane Owen facilitated the camp. Caleb Pierce, a recent ˿����Ƶ Tech graduate and current ITS employee, offered invaluable technological support, and student workers Shea Fincher and Theo Rourke worked diligently to keep students engaged and on schedule. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this camp a success: Professors Hallie Neupert and Kristy Weidman from the Business Management Department joined with a hands-on challenge demonstrating the key skills of communication and collaboration. Tony Richey, Associate Vice President of Information Technology Services, shared his journey into cybersecurity and discussed opportunities in the field. Now we’re off to build LEGO robots and play volleyball with this week’s camp students!
