What is Give a Hoot Day?
Give a Hoot Day is a 24-hour fundraising event on April 9th 2025 in support of the people, programs, and projects at ˿Ƶ Tech. There will be engagement opportunities, including matches and challenges, online and in-person to raise vital funds benefiting ˿Ƶ Tech students.
What is an advocate?
As an advocate, you help spread the word to your ˿Ƶ Tech community about Give a Hoot Day and the specific cause you’re raising money for. We encourage you to use social media, email, text/call, and/or in-person channels to reach people. At the end of Give a Hoot Day, we ask that you thank those who participated.
How do I sign up?
˿Ƶ Tech uses the GiveCampus social fundraising platform for Give a Hoot Day. We ask that advocates create an account through GiveCampus so that you get a unique tracking link. Through this link, you can effectively track the impact of your outreach efforts, seamlessly share messaging via social media, view how many times someone clicked on the link, and see who made a gift so you can thank them.
Here is how to get started:
Step 1: Sign Up
Go to and click on ‘Sign Up’ in the top section of the page. If you already have an account, please move on to step 3.

Step 2: Create an Account
It is not recommended to use Facebook to sign up. Please create an account using your email on file with ˿Ƶ Tech, and if you do not have one, you can use your personal email. Once you have created an account, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to activate your account and complete the sign-up process.
Step 3: Spread the Word
Once you have an account, you can share with your network, create a match or challenge, or create your personal video. When you click the “copy” button, this copies your unique tracking link that you can share with others.

What are some fundraising tips?
Engage several groups of people
Consider asking alumni, previous donors, parents, faculty/staff, local business owners, community members, friends, and family to give. If you know someone who is very enthusiastic about supporting your cause, encourage them to also become an advocate! They would also have the option to create a match or challenge for your cause with their donation.
Before Give a Hoot Day, communicate what you’re raising money for and ask people to participate in the day. On Give a Hoot Day, send a reminder that the event is happening and what you’re raising money for. The day after, be sure to thank the people that supported you.
Tell a compelling story
People give to other people, not institutions, so try and make your ask as human as possible. Consider telling a personal story, using quotes, and/or leveraging pictures of people.
Communicate your impact
Clearly articulate how donations will benefit the people, programs, and projects at ˿Ƶ Tech: Will it help cover transportation costs for an upcoming event/tournament? Will it fund new equipment? What about a new or annual event?
If you can, attach a dollar amount to what their donation will fund. For example, $50 will cover a senior student's send-off gift or $800 will cover the cost of a plane ticket.
Utilize different methods
- In-person and personal asks: this method is the most effective way of asking someone to support you. Consider engaging the people who you see at school, work, shopping, volunteering, or in your community. If you’re unable to ask in person, you can consider a direct text, call, or email to someone.
- Digital marketing: this method is effective to spread awareness of what you’re raising money for. Consider using channels you are already a part of like Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Youtube to post images and videos.
